Gurugram, Mar 10: Seven labourers lost their lives after a wall of an under-construction structure collapsed in Gurugram district of Haryana, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at the Signature Global Society construction site in the Sidhrawali area.

According to reports, the wall collapsed around 8 pm, trapping nearly 12 to 15 workers beneath the debris. Rescue teams pulled them out from the rubble and shifted them to a hospital in Bhiwadi, where seven were declared dead, news agency Press Trust of India reported.

Police said the collapse was likely triggered by a soil cave-in in the basement of an upcoming residential project where a sewage treatment plant was under construction, according to a report.

Deepak Kumar Jewaria, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Manesar), said rescue teams, firefighters and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force were immediately deployed to the site to remove debris and rescue the trapped workers.

Six of the deceased have been identified as Satish, Bhagirath, Milan, Shiv Shankar, Mangal and Parmeshwar. Officials said four others — Chotelal, Deendayal, Shivkant and Indrajeet — remain in critical condition.

Police reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister of Haryana, announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of those who died in a fire at a factory in Safidon in Jind district.

He also approved Rs 2 lakh as compensation for those injured in the incident.

Earlier, four women died after a fire broke out at a paint factory in the district. Kuldeep Singh, Superintendent of Police of Jind, said a case has been registered against the factory owner while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
