Motivational session 'Unleashing Potential: The Power Within' held at Yenepoya Institute

Mangaluru, Mar 11: The department of linguistic studies, in association with the Literary Club, organised an inspiring session titled 'Unleashing Potential: The Power Within' at the YMK Auditorium of Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management on March 10. The programme aimed to motivate students to discover their inner strengths, build confidence, and channel their abilities toward meaningful goals.

The resource person for the session was Corrine Rasquinha, Rajyotsava Awardee and founder of White Doves Charitable Trust, Mangalore, widely known for her humanitarian service and dedication to social welfare. The programme was graced by Prof Jeevan Raj, principal (I/C); Prof Shareena P, dean, faculty of commerce and management and vice principal; Prof Narayan Sukumar A, vice principal; and Dr Vasanth Kumar, dean, faculty of social science and humanities and head of the department.

The programme commenced with a prayer, creating a solemn and positive atmosphere. This was followed by the release of the 'Maardani' journal by the dignitaries, which showcases the creative and intellectual contributions and serves as a platform for literary and cultural engagement.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Vasanth Kumar highlighted the importance of cultivating reading habits among students and urged them to engage more with books rather than excessive use of mobile phones. He noted that reading broadens perspectives, enhances knowledge, and contributes significantly to personal and intellectual development.

In her address, Prof Shareena P encouraged students to develop confidence and believe in their abilities. She emphasised that along with knowledge and skills, a positive attitude, determination, and perseverance are essential for achieving success in both academic and personal life.

Prof Jeevan Raj, the president of the programme, spoke about the importance of empathy and social responsibility. He urged students to cultivate compassion and kindness and to strive to become responsible individuals who contribute positively to society.

The highlight of the programme was the interactive session delivered by Corrine Rasquinha, who shared inspiring experiences from her journey of serving the destitute, elderly, and underprivileged through the White Doves Charitable Trust. She emphasised the values of compassion, resilience, and inner strength, encouraging students to recognise their potential, overcome challenges with determination, and contribute meaningfully to society. Her address deeply resonated with the audience and left a lasting impression on the students.

On this occasion, the resource person was felicitated in recognition of her remarkable service to humanity. A prize distribution ceremony was also held for the winners of competitions organised as part of the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations. Students from various constituent units of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) participated in the competitions. The dignitaries presented prizes to the winners and appreciated their enthusiasm and participation.

The programme was coordinated by the convenors Dr Shalini Sequeira, head; Niyaz P, assistant professor; and Dr Dinakara P, associate professor of the department of linguistic studies. The event was gracefully anchored by Ayesha of I BCA. Dr Dinakara P delivered the welcome address, and the programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Niyaz P.

The session proved to be inspiring and thought-provoking, motivating students to recognise their inner potential, pursue personal growth, and contribute positively to society.
