Mumbai, Mar 14: Akasa Air has announced that it will levy a fuel surcharge ranging from Rs 199 to Rs 1,300 on both domestic and international flight tickets starting March 15.

The airline said the move comes amid a sharp surge in global jet fuel prices, which has significantly increased operational costs for carriers.

Passengers travelling with the low-cost airline will see the additional charge reflected in their ticket prices. The surcharge will vary depending on the route and distance of travel.

According to the airline, the decision has been taken to offset rising fuel expenses linked to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, which have pushed up global aviation fuel prices.

Airlines typically introduce such surcharges when fuel prices rise sharply, as fuel accounts for a major portion of operating costs in the aviation sector.

The development comes at a time when the aviation industry is grappling with increased expenses due to global geopolitical tensions affecting energy markets.
