New Delhi, Mar 15: With the two-phase West Bengal Assembly elections approaching on April 23 and 29, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed strong confidence on Sunday that it will unseat the incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Mamata Banerjee4.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan asserted that the people of Bengal are ready for change, citing alleged corruption, nepotism, and misgovernance by the TMC.

“The people of Bengal have made up their minds to change the incumbent government. There is a lot of atrocity, corruption, and nepotism. The people want to oust Mamata Banerjee from power,” Pradhan said.

Other BJP leaders echoed similar sentiments. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the party would come to power, while MP Gulam Ali Khatana claimed that the electorate supports a vision of development aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that the BJP is steadily gaining ground, alleging attacks on party workers and misuse of power by the TMC.

“The Trinamool Congress is unsettled by the environment in the state that favours the BJP. Our party workers are being attacked. The state’s law and order has gone for a toss,” Maurya said, adding that the electorate will respond and “the Lotus will bloom in Bengal.”

Union Minister Giriraj Singh accused the TMC government of politicising law enforcement and turning the administration into a “government of goons,” warning that another TMC term could harm Hindu communities in the state.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the assembly election schedule for four states and one Union Territory. Alongside West Bengal, Assam and Kerala will vote in a single phase on April 9, as will the Union Territory of Puducherry. Tamil Nadu will hold elections for all 234 assembly seats on April 23. Results for all states and the UT will be declared on May 4.
