Johannesburg, Mar 15: Two people were killed and six others injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire during a social gathering in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, South Africa, police said on Sunday.

According to South African Police Service spokesperson Brenda Muridili, the incident occurred on Saturday night when around eight armed men entered a yard where people had gathered and began shooting randomly before fleeing the scene on foot.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said no arrests have been made so far and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Authorities have launched a manhunt and urged anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be shared with Crime Stop or through the MySaps mobile application.

The shooting comes amid heightened security measures in the area. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has deployed troops to Eldorado Park and nearby areas to assist the police in tackling rising gang violence and organised crime.

Soldiers were deployed in parts of Johannesburg, including Eldorado Park and Riverlea, Johannesburg, South Africa, on March 11 as part of a broader national effort to restore law and order in communities affected by crime.

Eldorado Park has witnessed several violent incidents in recent years. In June 2025, nine people were shot outside a mosque in the neighbourhood, leaving three dead, while other shootings and criminal incidents have also been reported in the area.
