Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 16: The Ladies Social Service League (LSSL), hosted a vibrant dual celebration of Family Day and International Women’s Day on March 12. The event was held at the Sambhrama Hall, St Anthony Ashram.

The programme was elevated by the presence of esteemed guests and spiritual leaders: Fr J B Crasta: director of St Anthony Ashram. Fr Praveen Amrit Martis: spiritual director of the League. Anitha Frank: secretary of the Women’s Commission.

In a touching tribute to the League's history, the family members of the late founder, Octavia Albuquerque, were in attendance, including her daughters Dorothy Vas and Moira Alva. They were joined by religious sisters and members representing all six units of the League.

The programme opened with a prayer song followed by a warm welcome address from the League's president, Flany D’Souza. Members from the six units displayed their talents through a series of choreographed dances, thematic skits, and melodic group songs. In a gesture of respect, elderly members and distinguished guests were honored with floral tributes.

A significant highlight of the evening was the honoring of Shubha Laxmi. Recognized for her extraordinary resilience, Laxmi was lauded for overcoming significant life hardships and successfully supporting her family through her dedicated work in the catering industry. Her story served as a powerful testament to the spirit of International Women's Day.

The formal proceedings were seamlessly guided by Philomena Lobo (Comperer), with words of appreciation offered by Philomena Mors. The official vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary, Sarita Lobo.

The festivities concluded on a high note with interactive games and a lively round of housiehousie. Attendees, totaling over 105 members and guests, enjoyed snacks and badam milk, fostering a sense of community and shared joy.
