Maiduguri, Mar 17: At least 23 people were killed and over 100 others injured after multiple explosions carried out by suspected suicide bombers struck the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, police said on Tuesday.
According to police spokesperson Nahum Kenneth Daso, preliminary investigations indicate that the attacks were executed by suspected suicide bombers. “A total of 23 persons lost their lives, while 108 others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he said in a statement.

The blasts occurred on Monday evening and followed an earlier attack on a military post between Sunday night and Monday, which authorities attributed to suspected jihadist groups. The incidents have disrupted a period of relative calm in the city, which had seen reduced violence in recent times.
Security concerns in the region have intensified, with extremist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province stepping up attacks in northeastern Nigeria. Their prolonged insurgency, spanning over 16 years, has claimed more than 40,000 lives and displaced around two million people.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes at hospitals, with dozens of injured victims receiving treatment and bodies lying outside medical facilities.
Police said that normalcy has been restored in affected areas and that security presence has been heightened across the city and surrounding regions to prevent further attacks.
