UP Lawmaker's Son Held for Thrashing Russian Woman

New Delhi, Mar 6 (IANS): An Uttar Pradesh legislator's son was arrested by Delhi Police for assaulting a Russian woman here five days ago, an official said Monday.

"Vivek Ahlawat was arrested from Uttar Pradesh Monday," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.

Tatiana Butyaeva, 24, an architect who earlier worked with a multi-national company based in Gurgaon, was assaulted by Ahlawat, son of Chandervir Singh, at her house in south Delhi's Mehrauli Feb 29.

On her complaint, police registered a first information report (FIR) against Ahlawat for house trespass for assault and under some provisions of the Arms Act.

"After lodging the FIR against Ahlawat, I am getting SMS and phone calls of dire consequences. The matter was presented in the Russian embassy Sunday," Butyaeva told IANS.

The woman has been given security as she apprehended danger to her life, her lawyer said here Monday.

Gagan Chhabra, lawyer for Butyaeva, told IANS that the security was given after the Russian embassy took up the matter with the prime minister's office.

The victim alleged that police were not taking strong action against the accused as he was from an influential political family.

In the FIR, the victim was been shown as an Indian national instead of Russian, Chhabra alleged.

Butyaeva told IANS: "I had came to India in January 2011 for an internship in architecture for one year. I came in touch with Ahlawat in April 2011. After completing my internship, I went back to Russia."

"On Feb 29, 2012 around 4 a.m. I returned to Delhi. As Ahlawat was aware of my arrival, he offered me a lift from the airport but I refused it," she said.

After that he came to my rented house in Mehrauli and assaulted me. "By taking away my passport and credit cards he wanted to make me captive for a long time," she said.
