Bareilly: Mother’s testimony leads to son’s life term in father’s murder case

Bareilly, Mar 20: In a striking case from Bareilly, a court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his father, with crucial testimony coming from his own mother.

Additional Sessions Judge Tabrez Ahmed delivered the verdict on Thursday, convicting the accused, Chhatrapal, in the case.

According to prosecution, the incident occurred on April 11 last year when Chhatrapal allegedly attacked his father with a sickle following a dispute over 10 bighas of land. The victim succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a nearby hospital.

During the trial, the prosecution examined seven witnesses, including the victim’s brother. The mother emerged as a key witness, testifying against her son and identifying him as the assailant. She reportedly told the court that she did not wish to see her son again.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict along with the life sentence.

The case highlights the role of strong eyewitness testimony in securing conviction in serious criminal cases.
