Chrism Mass, celebration of Day of Consecration observed in diocese of Shimoga

Shivamogga, Mar 20: The Chrism Mass was solemnly celebrated in the diocese of Shimoga on March 19, the Solemnity of St Joseph, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. The day was also observed as the Day of Consecration, highlighting the sacred calling of priests & religious in the church.

The celebration was presided over by Bishop Dr Duming Dias, apostolic administrator, in the presence of Msgr Stany D’Souza, delegate of the apostolic administrator, along with the deans and priests of the diocese. The bishop also preached the homily. In his homily, he highlighted the central importance of the Eucharist and the vital role of priests in the life of the church, encouraging them to remain faithful and dedicated to their vocation.

During the Eucharistic celebration, the blessing of the holy oils and the consecration of the Sacred Chrism were carried out. A significant moment of the celebration was the renewal of priestly vows, as the priests recommitted themselves to their ministry. Special prayers were also offered for all priests.

The celebration reflected the unity of the clergy with the bishop and invited the faithful to continue praying for their priests. The bishop also expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the celebration, making it a meaningful and memorable occasion.

On March 18, all the priests gathered at Sannidhi for a recollection. Fr Santan D'Souza, from the archdiocese of Goa, was the preacher. The day concluded with Adoration. On the March 19, the day began with morning prayer. Then there was a talk followed by confessions.

The Day of Consecrated Life was celebrated on March 19. Priests and religious from all over the diocese gathered at Sannidhi. Jubilarians were felicitated. Bishop Duming gave an apt message to the gathering.
