Khargone, Mar 22: A man allegedly killed his pregnant wife following a domestic dispute over cooking in Jamarda village under Chainpur police station limits in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district, police said.

According to Bhikangaon SDOP Rakesh Arya, the accused, identified as Sunil, was arrested on Saturday for the brutal ????? of his 25-year-old wife, Sheela Bai. He was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police said the incident occurred on Friday after an argument broke out when the woman did not prepare spinach as asked by her husband. She reportedly told him that food had already been cooked and the vegetable would be prepared later.

In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly dragged her nearly 200 feet to a field behind their house and attacked her with an axe, striking her on the neck twice, leading to her death on the spot. His mother and younger brother were not present at the time of the incident.

After the crime, Sunil reportedly went to a relative’s house and confessed to the act.

Officials said the couple had recently returned from Maharashtra, where they worked as labourers, and had two children aged three and five.

Following the incident, members of the woman’s family reached the village and created tension, demanding that the accused be handed over to them. Additional police forces were deployed to maintain law and order. The post-mortem was conducted under security, and the last rites were performed thereafter.

Police added that both families shared cordial relations, with multiple inter-family marriages reported between them.
