Sullia: Theft accused sentenced to one year imprisonment, fined Rs 1,000

Sullia, Mar 26: A court has sentenced an accused in a theft case registered at Sullia police station, bringing closure to a long-pending case dating back to 2018.

The convicted has been identified as Ashwin Gavabada J P, a resident of Tumakuru. He was earlier booked in connection with a theft case registered at the Sullia police station.

Following the trial, the court had initially released him under the provisions of the PO Act. However, the accused later failed to appear before the court and had been absconding.

On March 24, the accused was traced and arrested in Tumakuru by Subrahmanya police. After being produced before the court, he was sentenced to one year of simple imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000.

Assistant Government Pleader Preethi M C represented the prosecution in the case.
