Panaji, Mar 26: A late-night altercation at a beach shack in Calangute turned violent after staff allegedly attacked a group of tourists from Bengaluru, leaving several injured and prompting police action.

The incident occurred around 10 pm on Tuesday at one of Goa’s busiest tourist hubs. According to police, the dispute began over the use of sunbeds at the shack and quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

In his complaint, a Bengaluru-based businessman alleged that two shack employees, along with their associates, assaulted him and his six friends using beach umbrella rods and metal rods. The victims reportedly sustained serious injuries.

Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend others involved.

Officials said a similar incident had been reported at the same shack last year. Despite prior warnings to adhere to regulations and maintain discipline, the management allegedly failed to comply.

Following the latest incident, the tourism department has temporarily suspended the shack’s licence.

The episode has once again raised concerns over tourist safety and enforcement of regulations at popular beach destinations in Goa.
