Ahmedabad, Mar 26: Nearly 50 residents were rescued unharmed after a fire broke out in a residential tower in the Shela locality on Thursday morning. Authorities highlighted that timely action and effective in-building fire safety measures played a crucial role in preventing any loss of life.

The fire was reported around 7:58 a.m. from flat C-302 on the third floor of the Sky City complex near O7 Road. What began as a localized blaze soon extended upward, with dense smoke engulfing several floors and prompting an immediate emergency response.

Fire officials stated that as a precaution, approximately 40 to 50 residents were temporarily moved to the terrace due to the heavy smoke. They were later escorted down safely using the staircase once conditions stabilized.

The building’s internal fire safety system was operational and helped contain the situation in its early stages before firefighters arrived. Officials confirmed that the blaze was brought under control without any injuries or casualties.

A significant firefighting operation was launched, involving 18 vehicles such as water bowsers, a tanker, a hydraulic platform, first responder units, and an ambulance. A team of 73 personnel—including firefighters, officers, and support staff—worked together to manage the situation, control the flames, and clear smoke from the structure.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts, residents from all floors, including families in higher levels, were evacuated calmly and safely. Preliminary findings suggest the fire originated within a single apartment and spread upward, possibly due to combustible interior materials. However, the exact cause remains under investigation.

Officials have initiated a detailed inquiry to determine the source of the fire and will also assess the building’s compliance with fire safety standards as part of the review.
