New Delhi, Mar 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged states to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, warning that the situation could have prolonged repercussions for India.

Calling for coordinated action, Modi emphasised the need for Centre-state cooperation, drawing parallels with the collective response during the COVID-19 pandemic. He appealed to state governments to make special arrangements to maintain supply chains and avoid disruptions.

Recalling the “Team India” approach adopted during the pandemic, the Prime Minister highlighted how regular interactions with Chief Ministers helped strengthen coordination in managing the crisis. The first such virtual meeting was held on March 20, 2020, days before a nationwide lockdown was imposed.

Over the following year, Modi held multiple meetings with state leaders, focusing on tracking infections, expanding testing, and improving treatment infrastructure. He consistently underlined that teamwork was key to tackling the unprecedented challenge.

During the phased ‘unlock’ period, the Prime Minister advocated a balanced approach to revive the economy while managing the pandemic, allowing states to play a key role in decision-making.

Following the launch of the nationwide vaccination drive in January 2021, Modi stressed the need for seamless vaccine coverage and later announced free vaccinations for all adults to ease the financial burden on states.

He also praised the Centre-state partnership in managing both the health crisis and economic challenges, highlighting India’s federal structure and collaborative governance model.

As fresh global uncertainties emerge, Modi’s renewed call for “Team India” underscores the importance of unified efforts to navigate potential challenges ahead.
