Three friends killed as car plunges into river in midnight tragedy in Bihar

Patna, Mar 28: A devastating road accident in Bihar’s Madhepura district has claimed the lives of three young men after their car veered off a bridge and fell into a river, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.

The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday near Arar Bridge, within the jurisdiction of Arar police station. The group of four friends was returning home after attending a Ram Navami fair in the Gwalpara block when tragedy struck.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred around 1 a.m. as the car approached the bridge. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a roadside pole before plunging into the Sursar River.

Police officials confirmed that three of the four occupants died in the mishap. The victims have been identified as Ghanshyam Kumar (28), a resident near Station Chowk in Madhepura, Ankit Kumar (26) from Saharsa district’s Mokma area, and Vasant Kumar (23) of Saur Bazar.

Search efforts are ongoing to locate the fourth individual, who remains missing. Rescue teams, including personnel from the SDRF along with local police and villagers, are continuing operations at the site.

Authorities responded promptly after receiving information about the accident. With assistance from locals, they retrieved the bodies and managed to pull the submerged vehicle out of the river. The deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations.

The loss has deeply affected the victims’ families and cast a shadow of grief over Madhepura and surrounding regions. The four friends had reportedly set out together to enjoy the festive fair, making the incident even more heartbreaking.

Officials have stated that the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. While preliminary indications suggest the driver may have lost control near the bridge, investigators are examining all possible factors, including speeding, road conditions, fatigue, or other contributing circumstances.
