Barabanki, Mar 28: In a sequence of events that has left both local residents and law enforcement in Barabanki paralyzed with shock, a 21-year-old ice seller was brutally decapitated on Saturday following a trivial street argument.
The victim, identified as Bablu—the eldest of three brothers and a father of two—was reportedly engaged in his daily routine in the Tikaitnagar police station area when he entered into a verbal spat with a local man named Shankar. According to officials, the disagreement escalated with terrifying speed, ending when Shankar allegedly used a sharp weapon to behead Bablu in full public view.

The horror of the crime did not end with the assault. Rather than fleeing the scene, witnesses watched in disbelief as the suspect calmly picked up the severed head and carried it back to his own home. When a large police force, acting under the direction of Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya, cordoned off the village and raided the suspect's residence, they discovered a scene of pure macabre: Shankar was found casually cooking a meal while the victim's head sat on the floor beside him.
The suspect was immediately apprehended, and police recovered both the remains and the murder weapon from the premises. While SP Vijayvargiya has suggested that the case appears to be driven by a combination of a personal dispute and a sudden lapse into insanity, a rigorous interrogation is currently underway to determine the precise motive.
This tragedy follows a similarly disturbing incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district, where a young man recently beheaded two elderly neighbors over superstitions involving a family tragedy, marking a grim period of extreme local violence.
