New Delhi, Mar 30: The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a suspected operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) near the Delhi border for allegedly orchestrating terror activities targeting India while operating from Bangladesh, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Shabbir Ahmad Lone alias Raja alias Kashmiri, a resident of Kangan in Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir, had been under surveillance for his suspected role in coordinating anti-India operations. His arrest was carried out in coordination with central intelligence agencies.

According to officials, Lone had been based in Bangladesh and was allegedly handling LeT’s operations under the direction of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He is accused of recruiting Bangladeshi nationals, including illegal immigrants in India, to execute terror plots while attempting to conceal Pakistan’s involvement.

The arrest comes days after security agencies dismantled a Lashkar-linked module operating across Delhi and parts of South India. The group had allegedly engaged in propaganda activities, including putting up anti-India posters in cities such as Delhi and Kolkata.

Investigators said Lone is a trained militant who underwent both basic and advanced training at a terror camp in Muzaffarabad and has longstanding links with the outfit’s top leadership. He was earlier arrested in 2007 with a cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle and grenades.

During previous investigations, his links were established with key figures such as Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. He remained lodged in Tihar Jail until 2018 before being released on bail.

Officials said Lone later resurfaced in Bangladesh, where he allegedly rebuilt networks and continued coordinating activities targeting India, reflecting a cross-border terror structure involving handlers in Pakistan and operatives in Bangladesh.

He is currently being interrogated to uncover details of the network, including recruitment channels, funding routes and potential targets, officials added.
