Nitish Kumar quits MLC post; signals major political shift in Bihar

Daijiworld Media Network - Patna

Patna, Mar 30: In a significant political development, Nitish Kumar has resigned as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), triggering speculation of an imminent leadership change in Bihar.

Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Gandhi submitted Kumar’s resignation letter to the Bihar Legislative Council secretariat on Monday. Cabinet Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary confirmed the move, indicating that it could be a precursor to Kumar stepping down as Chief Minister in the coming days.

The development comes just months after Kumar took oath for a record 10th term as Chief Minister. Earlier this month, he filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, sparking intense political activity in the state.

Kumar secured his seat in the Upper House after receiving the support of 44 MLAs during the March 16 polls. Following his election, speculation had been rife that he would soon relinquish both his legislative membership and the chief ministerial post.

Adding to the political churn, Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar recently made his formal entry into politics by joining the Janata Dal (United) at the party’s headquarters in Patna, in the presence of senior leaders including Sanjay Jha and Union Minister Lalan Singh.

Meanwhile, Kumar was accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary during his Rajya Sabha nomination filing, underlining the importance of the development within the NDA alliance.

The resignation has fuelled speculation over Kumar’s next political move and the future leadership of Bihar, with further developments expected in the coming days.
