Beltangady: Newly married entrepreneur dies by suicide, probe underway

Beltangady, Mar 30: A newly married entrepreneur, who had tied the knot last month, died in a hospital on Sunday, March 29, after attempting suicide at his wife’s house.

The deceased has been identified as B Sudheep Rai (36), a native of Nelyadi in Puttur taluk, who was residing at his grandfather’s house in Karnodi, Laila village of Beltangady.

On March 17, Sudheep Rai allegedly consumed poison along with food in an attempt to end his life. He was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru and was battling for life, but succumbed to treatment on Sunday.

It is learnt that he had registered his marriage on February 17 with Soumya Shetty (28), a resident of Kaje in Karkala taluk, who was working at the Puttur sub-registrar’s office, without informing their families. He had consumed poison at his wife’s residence on March 17.

The exact reason for the suicide is not yet known, and is expected to be revealed through police investigation. Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father Damodara Rai, Karkala Town police have registered a case and are investigating.
