Hyderabad, Apr 1: A 29-year-old woman allegedly killed her two minor sons before dying by suicide at her residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday, with police suspecting prolonged family disputes behind the incident.

The deceased have been identified as S Banoth Sravanthi (29) and her sons Karthik (12) and Koushik (10).

According to police, Sravanthi had married Boda Praveen around 13 years ago, and the couple had been facing frequent disputes, reportedly after Praveen allegedly married another woman.

Officials said Sravanthi had recently moved to her parents’ house in Warangal along with her children following repeated quarrels. Family elders later intervened and persuaded her to return to Hyderabad with her husband on Monday night.

Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy said that on Tuesday afternoon, Praveen returned home around 1.30 pm and found the door locked from inside. After receiving no response despite repeated knocks, he broke open the door with the help of neighbours.

Inside, Sravanthi and her two children were found dead. Police and forensic teams reached the spot following a Dial 100 call received around 2.30 pm.

The bodies have been shifted for post-mortem examination. Police said prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide, while the exact cause of death of the children will be determined after medical reports.

Kukatpally DCP Riti Raj said a case of abetment to suicide would be registered against Praveen under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police added that the children were found hanging along with their mother, though investigations are underway to determine whether they were killed before the woman took the extreme step.
