Raigad, Apr 3: At least two passengers were killed and several others injured after a private bus overturned at Sukali Ghat in the Nagothane area along the Mumbai-Goa highway in the early hours of Friday.

The bus, travelling from Mumbai to Goa, reportedly lost control while navigating a sharp turn on the ghat section, leading to the accident. The impact was severe, leaving some passengers critically injured.

Locals from nearby villages rushed to the spot upon hearing the loud crash and began rescue operations before police and emergency teams arrived. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, with those in serious condition referred to higher medical centres.

Passengers alleged that the bus was being driven at high speed despite repeated warnings to the driver. Some even claimed that complaints had been raised during the journey but went unaddressed.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to identify the deceased.

The Sukali Ghat stretch is known for its narrow roads and sharp curves, making it a high-risk zone. Locals have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and enhanced safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
