Woman stabbed in broad daylight in Goa; kin booked for attempt to murder

Cortalim, Apr 5: A 34-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a knife in broad daylight at Vollant in Cortalim, leaving her seriously injured, while her father also sustained injuries during an attempt to rescue her.

According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday morning around 9.45 am on an internal road in the locality. The complaint was lodged by Gokuldas Shirodkar (66).

His daughter, Shital Palekar, had reportedly stepped out to pluck flowers when the accused, Sushant Narshiv Shirodkar (47), approached her. The accused, a relative of the complainant, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Police said he began abusing the woman and questioned her presence at her parental home despite being married and residing at Carambolim. The argument soon escalated, following which he allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting multiple injuries on her head and neck.

Hearing her cries, her father rushed to her aid but was also injured during the scuffle. Both victims were later provided medical treatment.

Verna Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused, and further investigation is underway.
