Florida, Apr 7: In a tragic incident, a father of three lost his life while rescuing his children from a rip current at Juno Beach last week, family members and officials said.
The deceased, identified as Ryan Jennings, had travelled with his family from Maine for a vacation when the incident occurred.

According to his wife, Emily Jennings, she was on the shore with their youngest daughter and niece, while Jennings was in the water with their 12-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter when they were suddenly caught in a strong rip current.
Sensing danger, Jennings first pushed his son towards safety and instructed him to swim to shore. He then held his daughter above the water to prevent her from drowning, ensuring both children survived.
Local rescue officials confirmed that lifeguards responded to a distress call around 3.25 pm and managed to bring four individuals to shore from an unguarded section of the beach. All were rushed to a nearby hospital.
However, Jennings was found unconscious and not breathing when brought ashore. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, he was later declared dead at a medical facility.
Authorities said the sea conditions at the time were conducive to rip currents — powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that can quickly pull swimmers away from shore.
Officials reiterated the importance of swimming only in areas monitored by lifeguards to reduce risks associated with such hazards.
Family members and friends have hailed Jennings as a hero, remembering him as a devoted father and a kind-hearted individual who always prioritised his family.
“He lived with kindness and love. I want him to be remembered for how he lived,” his wife said, adding that his actions reflected the person he truly was.
A fundraising campaign has since been launched to support the bereaved family, drawing widespread support and tributes from the community.
