Former DMK Minister's House Raided


Chennai, Mar 8 (IANS): DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister for information and publicity Parithi Ilamvazhuthi's house was raided by vigilance officials Thursday on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, the agency said.

In a statement issued here, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) said after discreet enquiries, a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Ilamvazuthi for acquiring assets -- movable and immovable -- of Rs.156,20,745 between June 1, 2006 and March 31, 2010.

The DVAC officials searched Ilamvazhuthi's houses here as well as that of his mother and brother.

Since the AIADMK came to power in May 2011, DVAC has raided the residences of several former DMK ministers, including K.P. Samy, D. Duraimurugan, K.N. Nehru, T.M. Anbarasan, K. Ponmudi, N. Suresh Rajan, Pongalur N. Palanisamy, M.R.K. Panneerselvam, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, K.R. Periakaruppan, A. Tamilarasi, Thangam Thenarasu and N.K.K.P. Raja.
