Kanker, Apr 13: A woman Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Monday, police said.

The exchange of fire took place in a forested area under the Chhote Bethiya police station limits when a joint team of security personnel was carrying out an anti-Naxalite operation.

A senior police official said the body of the woman cadre, along with a weapon, was recovered from the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Rupi, a member of the Maoists’ Partapur area committee.

The encounter comes just 12 days after the government declared Chhattisgarh free of armed Maoists on March 31.

Security forces have continued combing operations in the region, and further details are awaited, officials said.
