Shabana Azmi praises dignified farewell for Asha Bhosle in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 13: Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has lauded the Maharashtra government and civic authorities for organising a respectful and dignified final procession for legendary singer Asha Bhosle.

Taking to Instagram, Azmi expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the state administration, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Police, and traffic authorities, for ensuring that the farewell was conducted with the honour befitting an artist of Bhosle’s stature. She described the arrangements as a “momentous task” handled with grace and respect, adding a heartfelt tribute: “Ashaji Amar Rahein.”

Asha Bhosle, who passed away at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday, was given full state honours during her last rites held at Shivaji Park crematorium on Monday.

Her mortal remains were taken in a procession from her residence in Lower Parel to the crematorium, draped in the national tricolour.
The funeral was attended by several prominent figures from the film industry, including Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Padmini Kolhapure, Vivek Oberoi, singers Anup Jalota and Shaan, as well as filmmaker Ramesh Sippy.

Leaders from the political sphere, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Uddhav Thackeray, and Raj Thackeray, were also present to pay their respects.

In a separate tribute, Shabana Azmi praised Bhosle’s fearless approach to music and her unwavering dedication, calling her one of her all-time favourite singers and thanking her for a timeless legacy of songs.
