Woman murdered in Pune law office over alleged affair suspicion, three arrested

Pune, Apr 18: In a shocking incident in Pune’s Chandannagar area, a woman was allegedly brutally murdered inside a lawyer’s office over suspicion of an extramarital affair, triggering panic in the locality. Police have arrested the accused within six hours of the crime.

According to police, the victim, identified as Poonam Dinesh Moon (39), a resident of Ganeshnagar in Yerwada, was allegedly killed due to suspicion that she was in a relationship with advocate Sanjay Sawant. His wife Swati Sawant reportedly suspected the affair.

Police said Swati Sawant, her daughter, and advocate Sanjay Sawant allegedly conspired together to commit the crime.

The incident took place between April 16 afternoon and April 17 morning at a lawyer’s office located on Old Mundhwa Road in Chandannagar. The accused allegedly tied the victim’s legs with a rope and brutally attacked her using a bat and a sharp weapon on her head and face, resulting in her death on the spot.

Investigators said attempts were also made to destroy evidence after the murder. However, police swiftly launched an investigation and used technical analysis and CCTV footage to trace the accused in a short time.

A murder case has been registered at Chandannagar police station. Advocate Sanjay Sawant and his daughter have been detained, while the main accused Swati Sawant was arrested by the Crime Branch Extortion Cell-2 team.

Police said all three accused have reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of senior police officials. The incident has created an atmosphere of fear and anger among local residents.
