Mangaluru / Udupi, Apr 19: Residents across Karnataka’s coastal belt are set to face a spell of volatile weather over the next five days, as soaring temperatures combine with sudden bursts of rain and the threat of thunder and lightning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned.
Rainfall is likely in isolated pockets between April 19 and 22, with Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts particularly prone to thundershowers accompanied by lightning.
While these intermittent showers may offer brief respite from the oppressive heat, officials caution that lightning strikes could trigger power outages in several areas.

The shifting weather pattern is expected to deliver mixed outcomes for the agricultural sector. In Udupi district, where crops such as groundnut and watermelon are widely cultivated alongside seasonal vegetables, the interplay of intense heat and sporadic rain has raised concerns over potential yield losses.
With temperatures continuing to climb, health risks are also on the rise. Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions, noting that prolonged exposure to heat could adversely affect well-being.
The district administration has issued guidelines advising residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety measures.
Conditions on April 19 and 20 are forecast to remain unsettled, with heat and rainfall occurring in tandem, while relatively drier weather is expected on April 21 and 22. However, the likelihood of evening showers persists, underscoring the unpredictability of the current weather pattern.
