Beed, Apr 20: A senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party and former vice-chairman of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Sanjay Jadhav, was seriously injured after being attacked by unidentified assailants in Maharashtra’s Beed district late on April 19.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 11.30 pm when Jadhav was returning home from his agricultural field along the Govardhan Hivra–Sirsala road in Parli taluk. As he reached the Govardhan area, around five to six unidentified persons, who were allegedly lying in wait, intercepted him and launched a sudden attack.

The assailants reportedly used sharp weapons such as sickles and repeatedly struck Jadhav, leaving him critically injured. He collapsed on the spot in a pool of blood following the assault.

Local residents rushed to the scene and shifted him immediately to a nearby private hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The attack on a prominent political figure has created panic in the area, with residents expressing concern over safety.

While the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, discussions are ongoing among locals. Some suspect the assault may be linked to a recent argument involving Jadhav, after a video allegedly showing him assaulting a young man
went viral on social media a few days ago.

The connection between the viral video and the attack is being speculated upon, though officials have not confirmed any link so far.

Police have launched an investigation to identify the attackers and ascertain the motive behind the incident.
