Udupi, Apr 21: Dr M A Saleem, director general and inspector general of police (DGP & IGP), Karnataka, visited Udupi district on Monday, April 20, to conduct a comprehensive review of police operations and infrastructure.
During his visit, the DGP inspected the coastal security police station at Malpe and the district police office in Udupi. He was accompanied by Amit Singh, inspector general of police (Western Range, Mangaluru), and Vikas Kumar Vikas, inspector general of police (OPS & Internal Security, Bengaluru), along with senior officers of the coastal security police.






Following the inspection, a meeting was held at the district police office auditorium, attended by the superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, additional superintendent of police Sudhakar S Nayak, and other senior officials.
Addressing the officers, Dr Saleem appreciated the efforts of the Udupi police in maintaining communal harmony and directed them to continue their proactive approach. He issued strict instructions to take action against rowdy elements and those involved in illegal activities. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to focus on both the prevention and detection of theft cases and the timely disposal of pending criminal investigations.
Dr Saleem noted that the "Aasare" programme, which he introduced during his tenure as the Udupi SP, has now been adopted across Karnataka. He commended its effective execution in the district and called for the strengthening of other community-centric initiatives, including "Mane Mane Police," "Spandana," and child helpline services.
Remarking on the district's high literacy rate, the DGP advised the force to strive toward becoming a model police department at both the state and national levels, mirroring the district's excellence in education.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the additional SP Sudhakar S Nayak.
