Mumbai, Mar 9 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian markets Friday provisionally closed 347 points higher amid positive global cues.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,325.82 points, closed at 17,493.21 points (provisional), 347.69 points or 2.03 percent up from to its previous close at 17,145.52 points.
The Sensex had risen to an intra-day high of 17,531.62 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also closed higher at 5,336.3 points, up 2.22 percent or 115.85 points.
Broader markets too were in the green. The BSE midcap index ended 2.15 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index was up 1.29 percent. Metals, banking and capital goods stocks were among major gainers.
