Kolkata, Apr 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp critique of the Trinamool Congress during a campaign rally in Hooghly district, accusing the party and the state administration of obstructing investigations and undermining democratic processes.
Addressing a gathering in Haripal, Modi referred to an earlier controversy involving raids by the Enforcement Directorate at offices linked to a political consultancy firm in Kolkata. Without naming individuals directly, he alleged that attempts were made to hinder the probe and tamper with evidence. He added that the Supreme Court of India had taken a serious view of the matter and issued strong observations.

The Prime Minister also cited the 2024 rape and murder case of a junior doctor at R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, claiming that there were efforts to obstruct the investigation. He noted that the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation following directions from the Calcutta High Court.
Highlighting concerns over law and order, Modi referred to the violence during the 2023 panchayat elections in West Bengal, which saw multiple casualties. He said that the courts had intervened and ordered deployment of central forces after expressing lack of confidence in the state’s ability to ensure security.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the alleged cash-for-school jobs scam, accusing the state government of failing to conduct a fair investigation. He claimed that judicial intervention was required to initiate a central probe into the matter.
While intensifying his criticism, Modi alleged that such incidents have eroded the credibility of the ruling party in the state.
