Arambagh, Apr 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to come to power in West Bengal, claiming that the “arrogance” of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has already been “shattered” in the initial phase of the electoral battle.
Addressing a rally in Arambagh, Modi said that the momentum will continue in the next phase, leading to the formation of a BJP government in the state. He launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her government of corruption and governance failures. “The TMC government’s corruption and misrule have pushed people to the edge. The resolve to remove them is now stronger than ever,” he said.

Referring to the industrial decline in the state, Modi said areas along the Hooghly River, once known for mills and factories, are now witnessing frequent closures. “Factories that had been operational since the British era are shutting down, and lockout notices have become common,” he remarked.
Earlier, speaking at a rally in Bongaon, Modi alleged a breakdown of governance in the state, claiming that even “small-level leaders and goons behave as if they are in power.” He said this reflects the absence of accountability under the current administration.
The Prime Minister also questioned TMC’s founding slogan “Maa, Maati, Maanus,” stating that the party no longer uses it as its actions contradict those ideals. He accused the government of failing on all fronts, alleging that women have suffered, land has been misused, and people have been forced to migrate.
Highlighting the BJP’s focus on farmers, Modi said his government has doubled the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for jute over the past 11 years. “We have tripled jute procurement, made 100 per cent jute packaging mandatory for wheat and rice, and banned single-use plastics to boost demand,” he said, adding that these measures benefit jute mills in Bengal.
However, he alleged that the “syndicate system” under the TMC is preventing mills from functioning effectively. “For the welfare of farmers, the TMC government will have to bid farewell,” he asserted.
Continuing his attack, Modi described the current situation as “Maha Jungleraj,” claiming that only one “industry” is thriving — that of “cut-money and commission.” He called for a change in governance, saying, “Such a government must go.”
He concluded by echoing a popular slogan in the state, stating that Bengal now has one clear message: “Paltano Dorkar” (Change is necessary).
