New Delhi, Apr 27: In a major political development, the Rajya Sabha Chairman has approved the merger of seven MPs from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has issued an official notification confirming the move, and the seven members are now listed as part of the BJP in official records. With this, the BJP’s strength in the Upper House has increased to 113.
The MPs who have merged with the BJP include Raghav Chadha, Ashok Kumar Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Kumar Pathak, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Swati Maliwal and Rajinder Gupta.

The seven leaders had resigned from AAP on April 24 and formally joined the BJP at its Delhi headquarters in the presence of party chief Nitin Nabin and senior leader Tarun Chugh.
Speaking ahead of the development, Chadha said that two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs had split from the party and decided to join the BJP as a separate faction, marking a significant shift in the parliamentary landscape.
