Morena, Apr 27: A tragic road accident in Morena on Jaura Road claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman on Monday morning after she was hit and dragged by a speeding bus, police officials said.

The victim, identified as Kamla Baghel, a resident of Baripura, was crossing the road around 10 a.m. when the incident occurred. According to officials, the bus struck her and, without stopping, continued moving, dragging her nearly 30 feet along the road.

Authorities described the incident as extremely severe, noting that the woman died on the spot due to the impact and subsequent dragging.

Police from Civil Lines Police Station reached the location shortly after the accident to secure the area and begin initial investigations. The bus involved in the incident has been seized.

According to officials from Madhya Pradesh Police, the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the vehicle. A search operation is currently underway to trace and apprehend him.

Eyewitnesses, including a woman who was accompanying the victim, told investigators that the bus was being driven recklessly at high speed, leaving no time for the victim to react. She alleged that the driver showed complete disregard for human life by continuing to drive even after the collision.

Other witnesses present at the scene have also given statements, holding the driver responsible for the fatal accident.
Police have registered a criminal case and are examining the vehicle for possible mechanical issues. However, preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding and driver negligence were the primary causes of the crash.
