United Nations, Apr 29: China has called on all parties involved in the Middle East conflict to work towards restoring stability at the earliest, amid escalating tensions in the region.
Addressing a United Nations Security Council open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, China’s permanent representative to the UN, Fu Cong, said the region is at a critical juncture transitioning from war to peace.
He noted that the situation in the Middle East has intensified significantly in recent times, severely impacting regional stability while also affecting the global economy and energy security.

“China urges all parties to seize this window of peace, exercise utmost restraint, demonstrate maximum sincerity, and remain committed to a political solution to prevent any setback in ceasefire efforts and negotiations,” Fu said, stressing the need for early restoration of stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
Highlighting the importance of the Palestinian issue, Fu said it remains central to the broader Middle East conflict and must not be sidelined under any circumstances.
He called on all concerned parties, particularly Israel, to fully adhere to ceasefire agreements and ensure a comprehensive and lasting truce across Gaza.
Fu further urged Israel to comply with international humanitarian law, remove obstacles to humanitarian aid, and ensure that relief agencies can carry out their operations effectively.
He also raised concerns over settlement activities, stating that such actions violate international law and resolutions of the UN Security Council. Calling for de-escalation of tensions in the West Bank, he warned that continued occupation and expansion would only deepen the cycle of conflict.
“Israel must heed calls from the international community, halt illegal settlement activities, curb settler violence, and ensure accountability for attacks,” he said.
Expressing concern over opposition to the two-state solution, Fu reiterated that it remains the only viable path to resolving the Palestinian issue. He cautioned against unilateral actions that could undermine this framework.
Fu emphasized that any future arrangements must uphold the principle of Palestinians governing their own state and called for increased international support for the establishment of a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
China, he added, stands ready to work with the global community to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and achieve a just, lasting, and comprehensive resolution to the conflict at the earliest.
