Mangaluru, May 6: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader has responded to allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding an alleged delay in administering the oath, stating that no delay has occurred and that due constitutional procedure is being followed.

Addressing the media in Mangaluru, Khader emphasized that democracy and the parliamentary system must function on trust. “Without trust, the system cannot operate effectively,” he said.

Refuting the accusations, the Speaker clarified that no representatives had approached him while he was in Bengaluru. He added that a request seeking additional time was submitted only recently. “As this is a technical matter, it requires consultation and proper opinion before proceeding,” he noted.

Describing the situation as 'unique', Khader stressed that decisions must be taken strictly within the framework of the Constitution and the law. He maintained that he is committed to functioning in accordance with democratic principles and has no role in the government’s legal battles.

He further cautioned against unnecessary suspicion and haste in such matters, stating that they could undermine institutional integrity. Khader also revealed that the Governor had spoken to him regarding the issue.

Reiterating his stance, the Speaker asserted that there has been no delay and assured that there will be no obstruction in the process. He added that any lapses, if found, should be thoroughly investigated to ensure accountability.

The issue has gained political attention amid developments related to the recounting of postal votes in the Sringeri Assembly constituency.
