Garmin launches Forerunner 70, 170 GPS smartwatches with AMOLED displays

New Delhi, May 13: Garmin has unveiled two new GPS running smartwatches — the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 — aimed at both beginner and regular fitness enthusiasts. The company said the smartwatches will launch in India in June 2026 after completing regulatory approvals.

Both smartwatches feature AMOLED displays, touchscreen functionality, and Garmin’s signature five-button control layout. They come with built-in GPS, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, fitness coaching tools, and smart notification support.

In the United States, the Garmin Forerunner 70 is priced at USD 249.99 (approximately Rs 23,900), while the Forerunner 170 costs USD 299.99 (around Rs 28,700). India pricing has not yet been announced.

The Forerunner 70 will be available in Citron, Cool Lavender, Black, and Whitestone colour variants. Meanwhile, the Forerunner 170 will launch in Black with Amp Yellow accents and Whitestone with Cloud Blue accents. Garmin also confirmed a Music edition of the Forerunner 170 with built-in song storage for phone-free music playback during workouts.

Both watches feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with 390x390 pixel resolution, chemically strengthened glass, silicone straps, and 5ATM water resistance.

The devices support GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite systems for tracking pace, distance, and workout routes. Health-focused features include wrist-based heart rate tracking, Pulse Ox monitoring, stress tracking, sleep score, sleep coaching, Body Battery, HRV status, and women’s health tracking.

Garmin has also included training tools such as Garmin Coach, suggested daily workouts, PacePro, race predictor, recovery tracking, running dynamics, and training readiness.

The smartwatches support more than 80 sports and fitness modes, including running, cycling, swimming, yoga, strength training, hiking, cricket, and team sports.

The higher-end Forerunner 170 additionally includes a barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, thermometer, Garmin Pay support, floor climb tracking, open-water swimming support, and compatibility with cycling power meters.

Garmin claims the Forerunner 70 can deliver up to 13 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 23 hours in GPS-only mode. The watch comes with 512MB internal storage and weighs 40 grams.

The Forerunner 170, weighing 41 grams, is claimed to offer up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and includes 4GB onboard storage for apps and music.
