Amul raises milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across India from May 14

Gandhinagar, May 13: Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, has announced a nationwide increase of Rs 2 per litre in the prices of fresh milk variants, with the revised rates coming into effect from May 14.

The federation said the latest revision would impact major milk categories and pack sizes across the country and would result in an overall increase of around 2.5 to 3.5 per cent in retail prices.

According to GCMMF, the decision was taken in view of rising production and operational costs faced by dairy farmers and cooperative unions. The federation stated that expenses related to cattle feed, fuel, and milk packaging materials had increased considerably over the past year.

The cooperative also noted that its member unions had raised payments to milk producers by ?30 per kilogram of fat, representing a 3.7 per cent increase over the previous year.

In its statement, GCMMF said that nearly 80 per cent of the revenue earned from milk sales under the cooperative structure is passed on directly to farmers, adding that the latest price revision is intended to support dairy producers and encourage higher milk production.

Under the revised pricing structure in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Saurashtra, and Kutch, a 500 ml pouch of Amul Taaza will now cost Rs 29 instead of Rs 28, while the one-litre pack price has been increased from Rs 55 to Rs 57.

The price of a 500 ml pouch of Amul Cow Milk has been revised to Rs 30 from Rs 29, while Amul Shakti will now cost Rs 32 for a 500 ml pack, up from Rs 31.

Similarly, the one-litre pack of Amul Tea Special has been increased from Rs 63 to Rs 66. The 500 ml Amul Gold pouch will now be priced at Rs 35 instead of Rs 34, while buffalo milk prices have risen from Rs 37 to Rs 39 for a 500 ml pack.

GCMMF pointed out that the previous milk price revision was implemented from May 1, 2025, when prices were also increased by ?2 per litre due to higher production and operational costs. At that time, the federation had stated that fresh pouch milk prices had not been revised since June 2024.
