Kolkata, May 14: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday appeared before the Calcutta High Court wearing a black lawyer’s gown in connection with a case relating to alleged post-poll violence in the state following the Assembly elections.

The petition was filed by Shirshanya Bandopadhyay, son of senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and advocate Kalyan Bandopadhyay. The case concerns allegations of attacks on political workers and party offices after the high-voltage elections that ended the TMC’s 15-year rule and brought the BJP to power in West Bengal.

The appearance of Banerjee at the High Court drew considerable political attention, with the Trinamool Congress sharing photographs and reactions on social media platform X.

In its post, the party stated that Banerjee’s presence in court reflected her continued commitment towards the people of Bengal and her stand for justice and constitutional values.

The TMC claimed that Banerjee continues to stand by the people during difficult times and remains firm in what it described as her fight against injustice and political hostility.

The party further praised her for displaying “compassion, courage and conviction” while confronting political challenges posed by the BJP.

The matter continues to remain under judicial consideration, with further hearings expected in the Calcutta High Court regarding the allegations raised in the petition.
