Mangaluru: Malabar Gold & Diamonds distributes Rs 47.64 lac scholarships to 586 girl students

Mangaluru, May 14: Malabar Gold & Diamonds, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative and the Malabar Charitable Trust, organised a scholarship distribution programme at the Town Hall here on Thursday, May 14, to support the higher education of girl students.

As part of its educational and women empowerment initiatives, the trust distributed scholarships worth Rs 47.64 lac to 586 girl students from 70 government and aided colleges in the district. The programme aimed to ensure that no student is forced to discontinue her studies due to financial constraints.

The event was attended by chief guests, including MLA Umanath Kotian, Congress leader Mamatha Gatti, Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Association (DKDWJA) president Pushparaj B N, V Karunakaran, Vijay Kumar D, and Narayan Meshtru.

Speaking on the occasion, Umanath Kotian emphasised the importance of education in shaping an individual’s future. He stated that scholarships for girl students play a vital role in ensuring that financial challenges do not become a barrier to learning. He further noted that education is not limited to securing high marks; rather, it should help students gain knowledge, confidence, and the ability to make independent decisions in life.

The initiative was widely appreciated by the attendees as a meaningful step towards empowering young women through education and creating equal opportunities for their future.
