US Reports $232 Bn Budget Deficit


Washington, Mar 13 (IANS): The US Treasury Department announced Monday that the federal government registered a $231.7-billion budget deficit in February.

This marked the biggest monthly budget imbalance in history, and was $9.2 billion higher than the previous record of $222.5 billion registered in February 2011.

The US federal government raked in $103.4 billion last month, and registered outlays of $335.1 billion, Xinhua reported.

In the first five months of the 2012 fiscal year starting Oct 1 2011, the total budget deficit of the US federal government surpassed $580.8 billion, on pace to exceed $1 trillion for the fourth consecutive fiscal year.
