Mangaluru, May 16: Primary and secondary education minister Madhu Bangarappa said that the Beary community had given political strength to former chief minister S Bangarappa in Dakshina Kannada.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the decennial celebration of the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry held at Morgans Gate in the city.
Madhu Bangarappa said members of the Beary community are business-minded and that Bangarappa had a large number of admirers from the community in this region. “When Bangarappa was the chief minister in 1991-92, he sanctioned a dental college for our community. Around the same time, permission was also granted to the Yenepoya institution. Today, the Yenepoya institution has grown into a major establishment,” he said.





















He further said that whenever Harekala Hajabba seeks any work related to schools, the government approves it.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr Y Abdulla Kunhi, vice chancellor of Yenepoya Deemed to be University.
Thumbe Moideen, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MLC Ivan D'Souza, and Dr Harekala Hajabba also spoke as chief guests at the event.
President of the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry, S M Rasheed Haji, presided over the function.
On the occasion, the ‘Beary Legend Award’ was conferred on Dr Y Abdulla Kunhi.
Chikkamagaluru unit president Abdulla Sattar, Dr Muhammed Ismail, S M Arshad Motishyam, former MLA Moydin Bava, Dr Harekala Hajabba, BCCI International unit president Hidayath Adduroor, Abdulla Monu, secretaries Nisar Muhammed Fakir, executive committee members Dr U T Iftikhar Ali, Riyaz A K Bava, Shoukath Shauri, Abdul Nasir Lakkistar, Muhammed Haris, G Abdul Razak, Asif Sufi Khan, Abdul Ravoof Sultan Gold, and Badruddin Panambur were present.
The ‘Banya’ information bulletin and commemorative souvenir were released during the programme. Cultural programmes were also held.
BCCI general secretary Muhammed Imthiyaz delivered the introductory address. Treasurer Mansoor Ahmed proposed the vote of thanks, while Shahil Zahir compered the programme.
