Udupi, May 19: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that lashed several parts of Udupi district late Sunday night caused damage to houses and horticulture crops in Karkala and Kundapur taluks, officials said.
Rain coupled with gusty winds also continued in parts of Udupi on Monday night. The rainfall, which began around 9.30 pm, continued for some time with strong wind activity reported across several areas.
According to official reports, trees fell on 19 houses in Karkala taluk and six houses in Kundapur taluk, causing partial damage. The total loss to houses has been estimated at around Rs 5.90 lac.

In Nallur village of Karkala taluk, horticulture crops belonging to six families were damaged due to the strong winds and rain. The crop loss has been estimated at approximately Rs 1.19 lac.
Overall, the district has reported losses amounting to nearly Rs 7.09 lac due to damage to houses and horticulture crops.
Meanwhile, heavy rain and gusty winds also led to power disruptions in several areas, with electricity supply reportedly affected for nearly two hours on Sunday night.
