Telangana woman found dead, husband questioned over murder allegations

Hyderabad, May 22: A 30-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Telangana, with her family alleging that she was murdered by her husband for insurance money after years of domestic abuse.

The deceased has been identified as Guguloth Meenakshi, who had married Shivaji around 12 years ago following a love marriage. The couple had two sons.

According to family members, the marriage had become abusive over the years, with Shivaji allegedly subjecting Meenakshi to repeated physical and mental harassment.

Police said multiple injury marks were found on Meenakshi’s body, raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding her death. Investigators are examining whether it was a case of suicide or a staged crime scene.

In their complaint, Meenakshi’s relatives alleged that Shivaji was facing severe financial stress due to mounting debts and a large housing loan, and suspected that he was eyeing the insurance amount in her name.

Hours after the incident, a video allegedly showing Shivaji assaulting Meenakshi surfaced on social media, triggering public outrage.

Police sources said the video had reportedly been recorded earlier by one of Meenakshi’s relatives but was not released publicly at the time after elders in the family intervened and brokered a compromise.

According to the family, Shivaji had then assured relatives that he would stop harassing Meenakshi, but the abuse allegedly continued.

Speaking to reporters, V Srinivas confirmed that Shivaji had been taken in for questioning.

“He definitely assaulted her. We are waiting for the post-mortem report. Based on the findings, we will alter the FIR accordingly if it turns out to be a case of murder instead of suicide,” the officer said.

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
