Prayagraj, May 22: A disturbing video from Prayagraj showing two female students allegedly being assaulted inside their hostel room has gone viral on social media, triggering outrage and police action.
According to reports, the incident took place around 2 am at a hostel located in the Shankar Ghat area under Shivkuti police station limits. The students were staying at the hostel while preparing for competitive examinations.
The viral video, which is around 30 seconds long, allegedly shows the hostel owner’s son physically assaulting the two women inside their room. In the footage, the accused can be seen pulling one of the students by her hair, hitting the women and verbally abusing them. An elderly woman is also seen attempting to calm the situation.

The accused has been identified as Shubham Dwivedi.
According to the students, the accused had been harassing them for several days and allegedly had inappropriate intentions towards them. They claimed he first attempted to force his way into their room on May 18, but they refused to open the door.
The students alleged that Shubham was under the influence of alcohol during the incident and had been repeatedly calling and messaging them. When they stopped responding, he allegedly started banging on their room door aggressively.
According to the complaint, after the women refused to open the door, he allegedly locked it from outside. One of the students then contacted another woman staying nearby for help, but the accused allegedly locked her room from outside as well.
The students said they began shouting for help, following which the accused’s mother arrived at the scene and the room was opened. However, the women alleged that even after that, he continued assaulting and verbally abusing them.
One of the victims reportedly contacted her cousin and later informed police through the emergency helpline number 112.
The student further alleged that the accused attacked her with broken glass in the presence of police personnel and also threatened to kill her.
Police registered an FIR based on the complaint and arrested the accused. However, reports said he was later granted bail by a local court.
One of the victims, a resident of Amethi, alleged that the accused had been harassing her with inappropriate calls over the past 10 days while she was staying in Prayagraj for exam preparation.
