Beirut, May 23: Lebanon’s health ministry has reported that Israeli airstrikes killed at least 10 people, including six rescue workers and a child, in separate incidents in southern Lebanon.

According to the ministry, six people were killed in a strike on the village of Deir Qanun al-Nahr near the coastal city of Tyre. The victims included two rescuers from the Risala Scouts Association and a Syrian girl.

The group is affiliated with the Hezbollah-allied Amal Movement.

In a separate attack earlier on Friday, four rescuers were killed in the southern town of Hanaway, the ministry said. Those victims were members of the Islamic Health Committee, an organisation linked to Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it had carried out a targeted strike near the border, claiming it killed two armed individuals.

In a statement posted on Telegram, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its surveillance systems identified two armed suspects moving suspiciously a few hundred metres from Israeli territory in southern Lebanon.

The IDF said the individuals were monitored before being struck in an aerial attack, describing the operation as a response to perceived security threats near the border area.

The latest escalation comes amid ongoing cross-border tensions between Israel and Hezbollah-aligned groups in southern Lebanon, where sporadic strikes and retaliatory attacks have continued in recent months.
