Mangaluru: Seven-year fugitive held in decade-old theft case at Panambur

Mangaluru, May 23: Police have arrested a man who had allegedly been on the run for nearly seven years after evading court proceedings in connection with a decade-old theft case registered at Uppinangady police station.

The accused, identified as Akram alias Boja Akra, a resident of Kasaba Bengre in Mangaluru, was wanted in Crime No. 158/2015 registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code, relating to house-breaking and theft.

 

According to police sources, Akram had failed to appear before the court during trial proceedings and had remained absconding for around seven years.

Following sustained efforts to trace him, a special police team from Uppinangady police station tracked him down and arrested him on May 22, at Panambur.
