Kundapur, May 24: In a focused two-day enforcement operation, police in Kundapur have seized around 6–7 motorcycles fitted with illegally modified, high-decibel silencers that were causing excessive noise and public disturbance across the town.
The action followed multiple complaints from residents alleging that certain riders were tampering with factory-fitted silencers (decibel killers) to produce loud, harsh exhaust noise. These modified bikes were reportedly being driven at high speed and in a reckless manner in sensitive zones including college campuses, hospital surroundings, student hostels, and stretches of the national highway passing through Kundapur.

The special drive was conducted under the instructions of Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar and supervised by Kundapur DySP H D Kulkarni along with Town police inspector Jayaram Gowda. The enforcement action was executed by Traffic police sub-inspectors Anoop Nayak and Sudha Prabhu, supported by their respective teams.
Police personnel carried out systematic checks at multiple locations within the traffic police station limits, identifying and seizing 6–7 two-wheelers fitted with modified silencers that violated noise norms and traffic regulations.
Traffic sub-inspector Anoop Nayak stated that the rising number of road accidents necessitates stricter enforcement of traffic discipline. “Surveillance and enforcement measures are being intensified on two-wheelers as well as heavy and light motor vehicles,” he said.
He further added that the police will continue targeted drives to identify riders indulging in overspeeding, reckless driving, and other violations on public roads. “Necessary legal action will be initiated as per law, and cases will be registered after verification of vehicle documents, driving licences, and other compliance requirements,” he said.
The crackdown forms part of an ongoing statewide enforcement effort by Karnataka police aimed at curbing illegal vehicle modifications, reducing noise pollution, and improving road safety standards across urban and semi-urban areas.
